pure food and wine

since gf was visiting, she wanted to check out a raw restaurant. since i like fresh salads and eat more vegetables than meat, a raw food diet is not a huge stretch. the best rated raw food restaurant i found was Pure Food and Wine.

after a fun-filled kids’ Easter event, we went there for a late lunch. we arrived at a perfect time between lunch and dinner so we got the prime location – the outdoor table in front of the restaurant – which apparently is a hot spot because several others wanted the table after us (although the interior is quite pretty).

since there were 8 of us, we were able to try several dishes and drinks. gf had a beet drink with fruits, m had a very berry drink, i had sweet drink with fruits and ginger, and the kids enjoyed their lemonade. a yummy sweet dish was crepes with hazelnut cacao spread with flaxseed crepes, bananas and hazelnut which was almost as good as a french crepe with banana and nutella – just healthier. the nori tuna salad with butter lettuce, heirloom cherry tomato, avocado, parsley and nuts was filling and flavorful. the guacamole was amazing, whether with the chips or in a taco – yum. we also got a complimentary slaw roll, which was so light and refreshing.

Pure Food & Wine’s proprietor is Sarma Melngailis, a mostly raw eating chef and entrepreneur. although she started out as the co-/executive chef, she has shifted to the business end and now her staff does the cooking and creating. today’s chef was Nikki King Bennett.

we had a great lunch at Pure Food and Wine. while i have not made any commitments but i am always open to learning about healthy eating. so far, yum. stay tuned!
