shrimp with lemon chive tartar sauce

like the pasta, this recipe takes a twist from the usual often i had fish or fried clam strips with tartar sauce but this recipe has shrimp with tartar sauce. i never made tartar sauce before so it was fun to mix gherkins, chives, zest and mayo. you can also use orange zest instead of lemon. this tartar sauce with shrimp is so flavorful and delicious. yum! paired with the pasta with mixed peppers, it is a great meal!


For the shrimp

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1-1/4 pounds large or extra-large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • sea salt and ground black pepper

For the lemon chive tartar sauce

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons minced fresh chives
  • 2 tablespoons minced gherkins or cornichons
  • 1 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest


Heat 1 tablespoon of the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Season shrimp with salt, pepper and oregano. Place shrimp in hot pan (or stove-top grill pan) and cook 2 minutes per side, until opaque and cooked through.

Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, combine mayonnaise, chives, gherkins, and lemon zest. Mix well.

Top shrimp with tartar sauce. Serve with the pasta with mixed peppers.
